Friday, May 16th is Bike to Work Day! Sadly, I do not own a bike and will be taking the G to the E as always. However, if you do, you might want to join the thousands of others participating tomorrow by pedaling your way to the office. For organized Bike to Work events in your area, or for information on bike paths and maps, check out BikeToWorkWeek.org. Save gas, get exercise and don't forget a helmet!

Facing public pressure, the government decided yesterday to grant polar bears protection under the Endangered Species Act. This is a big win! Thanks to all of you who signed the petition. It's situations like these where activism really counts!

I got these beautiful flowers and peace of mind for my mom on Mother's Day. I decided to make this year's gift good for the environment by buying organic flowers online from Organic Bouquet. They offer a limited selection of flowers compared to 1800Flowers, but no less beautiful. It's my first organic flower purchase, prices were comparable, and overall it was a shopping experience I'm sure I'll be doing again and again!

In an extra large FedEx envelope from Los Angeles, in an unmarked cardboard box, I received a luggage-tag from DoubleTree Hotels asking me to "Tag It!". Initially I was confused. Tag what? My luggage? Upon further investigation, I discovered that it was an invitation from the company asking me to "tag" a tree and participate in "the ultimate game of 'eco-tag' this spring!"
Doubletree and the Arbor Day Foundation are working with Teaching Kids to CARE to help students learn more about nature and the outdoors through this tree tagging campaign titled Get To Know The Tree Next Door. Over 10,000 students will be tying tags on trees that outline unique facts about the tree as a teaching tool. I just hope for their fall campaign they consider this title: Removing Unwanted Trash From Trees.
The idea has a good cause, but I do question the execution, especially, the PR department's decision to fly that over-packaged luggage tag to my desk from L.A. to New York. Think of all the CO2 those poor trees now have to make up for!

Hypothetical questions are fun!
- If you were on death row what would your last meal be?
- Would you be willing to murder an innocent person if it would 'somehow' end all hunger in the world?
- For $35,000 USD, would you go for three months without washing,
brushing your teeth, or using deodorant? Assume you could not explain
your reasons to anyone until after the three months is up?
In this randy video, Greenpeace poses another interesting hypothetical that really gets you thinking...
Mating Season
A National Research Council report released this week concludes that short-term exposure to smog is clearly linked to premature deaths, contradicting arguments from the White House that the connection has not been sufficiently proven. The report also added:
studies have yielded strong evidence that short-term exposure to ozone
can exacerbate lung conditions, causing illness and hospitalization and
can potentially lead to death.
The 13-member panel believes that ozone-related mortality should be taken into consideration by the Environmental Protection Agency when measuring the health benefits of reducing air pollution.
So, unless you're not interested in living a long, full life, you might want to think about carpooling for the first time. Sometimes, if you wait too long for someone else to make your health-related decisions (ahem, the White House), it'll be too late.

Today I just signed the Earth Day Network Sky Petition urging Congress to get on-board with green initiatives and take courageous action in 2008! Tomorrow, on Earth Day, I have three big plans A) to finally commit part of my home electricity bill to wind power, B) to sign up to volunteer with an environmental organization this summer for a hands-on approach to preserving our planet , and C) to celebrate the big day with Green Drinks New York City and get to know other people in my area who are making the pledge to go green.
What are you doing for Earth Day?

I'm very happy to announce that our fun little eco-channel, TitanGreens, was nominated for a Webby Award this week for Best Online Video in the Public Service & Activism category! I'm still floored and can't even contain my excitement! Personally, I thought it was a long shot being that our green shows (Planet Police, Daily Greens, Media
Mulch and Versus) are so young and our company so new. However, we applied anyway based on the strength of our content and a personal belief that we had found a new way to approach the global warming topic without boring people. And wouldn't you know it...it touched a chord or two!
The best part is that we're going to get a lot more eyes on our channel and, hopefully, a lot more people thinking about what they can do to help support the longevity of our planet. I really couldn't ask for anything more!
So, if you're interested in checking out the other amazing nominees, or if you'd like to VOTE for us for the Webby's People's Voice Award...we'd love all the help we can get!
1) Register here.
2) Once you confirm that
registration via email, click on the Webby section that says "Online
Film & Video"
3) Choose the "Public
Service and Activism" category and vote for TitanTV’s
TitanGreens.com.
Muchas, muchas gracias for all your support! Have fun watching!
