Yup, He's Still Our President...

The following occurred at the recent G8 Summit in Japan, where environmental issues were at the forefront:

The American leader, who has been condemned throughout his presidency for failing to tackle climate change, ended a private meeting with the words: "Goodbye from the world's biggest polluter."

He then punched the air while grinning widely, as the rest of those present including Gordon Brown and Nicolas Sarkozy looked on in shock.

Shock. And Awe. But mostly shock.

I'm Morgan Jones - nice to meet ya!

Hello loyal readers, good friends, and weird-yet-dedicated spammers. This blog is transitioning and so is my life -- well, at least my professional life. My time at TitanTV is coming to a close and I'll leave with many fond memories (and the shiny glory of a Webby Award). Please, continue to check out all of the great work that was done by the creative team at TitanTV -- Liza de Guia, Michael Somerville, Grace Randolph and many others.

The cool thing about this business though is that our work lives on in the public sphere "forever" on this little thing we call the internet ("interweb" for you Republican congressmen out there). BlipTV, Revver, YouTube, Yahoo! Video are all home to many of our videos and remain a viewing window inside the hard work of this startup online production company.

I've learned a lot, laughed a lot and have truly enjoyed myself on this wild ride into the Wild West of online television. But don't worry, I'll be keeping this blog alive and I will write with the fervent tenacity and unparalleled hilarity you've grown accustomed to. Maybe the name of the blog will change, maybe the colors -- and if you're lucky, maybe even my profile picture -- but I'll continue to share my humble insights into the world of television and new media, from the environment to comedy.

So keep MorganJones.tv in your bookmarks, and in your heart. Remember, the internet is always only one stolen wireless signal away.

White House Spam

And now for my favorite story of the week, month and perhaps year.

There's now a solution to every annoying email from creepy exes, demanding bosses and disgusting spammers that want to improve...your...you know. JUST DON'T OPEN IT. Because if you don't open an email -- it never happened. It didn't exist. It was never sent.

Why do I raise this novel filtering strategy? Because it's the Bush Administration's new tactic for dealing with environmental issues. I would compare it to a 3rd grader with a high-level security clearance and a DSL connection. Here's a snippet from a New York Times article:

The White House in December refused to accept the Environmental Protection Agency’s conclusion that greenhouse gases are pollutants that must be controlled, telling agency officials that an e-mail message containing the document would not be opened, senior E.P.A. officials said last week.

Yes, this story is as funny and juvenile as it seems. Jon Stewart had a field day with it on The Daily Show and you can read more about it here, here and here.

I promise they're safe to open.

Welcome to the Internet!

It's time to reflect on a week of five word acceptance speeches, delicious appetizers, bizarre red carpet questions, "internet dancing" and of course, a Titan Greens Webby Award! The 12th Annual Webby Awards have come and gone, but will not soon be forgotten. Certainly not by our team at TitanTV. So, to commemorate this online achievement, here is a gallery of pics from Webby madness.

The "Web Carpet" -- from Chocolate Rain to Judah Friedlander (the host) to Michel Gondry to David Wain to the lovely Liza de Guia, all the stars were there to see and be seen.

Liza hugging our host Judah as she went up to accept our People's Voice Award in the category of "Public Service & Activism".

The TitanGreens.com 5 word acceptance speech: "Gore's hilarious love child accepts"!

Liza and myself basking in the glow of a Webby win at the Film & Video after-party. We're showing off the famous scroll that was going to be part of our acceptance speech but will now have to be revealed at another date. I could tell you what it says but...I would have to talk to Al Gore first.

Had to get a pic with viral video sensation Chocolate Rain, aka Tay Zonday, aka "Adam"! The voice is real, and so is that shirt. Lookin' sharp Tay! So what does that guy have that I don't? I mean, besides 23 million more online hits.

And finally, though I don't have the actual picture to commemorate the occasion, I cruised into the VIP section and talked to Michael K. Williams -- ie, Omar from "The Wire". Since it's one of my favorite shows and he's such a ridiculously good character/actor on the show, I had to say hi and congratulate Michael on getting a role in the Cormac McCarthy movie "The Road". Indeed!

Thanks again to everyone who voted for TitanGreens.com -- we appreciate your support and interest in making environmental action an accessible and interesting topic. Always remember, every vote counts!

When Stupidity Gets Stupider

Climate change skeptics have outdone themselves. Again.

First, they give me a quote like "the correct policy solution to a non-problem is to have the courage to do nothing."

Then, they hold a contest for children encouraging parents to help their kids debunk the "myth" of global warming. The brainwashed winners received cash prizes and a really crappy book.

Now, a conservative group called Grassfire.org has organized a "Carbon Belch Day" on June 12th, that encourages people to turn on their lights, drive their car and do anything else that increases their carbon footprint substantially.

Why? Well, I have no idea. Maybe because a dumb, juvenile, stubborn, idiotic, backward, incomprehensible move is just right up their alley. But, that's just my guess.

Quote of the Week

Most of you already know that the Bush Administration just added the polar bear to the list of threatened species in the United States. This is good news. Clearly these bears could use a little help with their habitat melting and all.

But here's the not so good part. The ruling will protect the species, but it also leaves open the door for expanded Arctic oil drilling and gas exploration. The President's Secretary of the Interior even delivered this doozy in his press conference:

"This listing will not stop global climate change or prevent any sea ice from melting." The Endangered Species Act should not be "abused to make global warming policies."

Well, we still know where they stand. Ah, back to the good old days...

I've Got a Confession to Make...

The last few weeks I've been driven. Committed. Focused. And...probably a little self-absorbed -- or at least a little Webby-absorbed. But now that TitanGreens.com has achieved "greatness" (my words, not theirs) in the web-o-sphere with our People's Voice Award win, I can focus on the news and issues in the environmental community other than just our awesome online eco-channel: Titan Greens.

And what better way to re-enter the green blogging foray than a smattering of cool and interesting links that highlight the work that OTHER people are doing...for a change.

* Check out the Sundance Channel's online "Green Porno" series. Get your mind out of the toilet! It's about insect sex!

* Are you a Mozilla Firefox kind of guy/gal? Are you a eco kind of guy/gal? Well, it's about time you got Flocked. Check out Flock's brand new browser.

* It's Bike Month dammit! How many times do I have to remind you? After I shake you silly, see what's going on in your home state. I'm celebrating Bike Month by heading down to the basement, fending off super-sized rats and dusting off my trusty bike for the season. I hope it's rust-proof.

Webby Award Deadline: May 1st 11:59PM

I'm an activist, darn it! Therefore, I'm taking action. I will not write ONE SINGLE BLOG POST until everyone who knows me, likes me, hates me, loathes me, watches me, reads me, or somehow knows someone who knows me VOTES for TitanGreens.com in the Webby Awards by May 1st 11:59pm. We have lost our lead and have fallen into a dreaded position: second place. But never fear! We are a startup company with an upstart attitude and with the help of the green community, our friends and family, I am confident that we can pull off the upset.

So, if YOU vote for us, you get a gold star and a happy face and a prize to be named later. If you write to your network of friends and do-gooders, letting them know about this earthy campaign, then the reward will be that much greater. No, we don't pay cash for votes, we pay in good karma. And as we all know, karma can be a b*%^#. Just don't make it yours.

To vote, follow these super-simple steps:

1) Register on the Webby Awards site -- http://pv.webbyawards.com/account/signup

2) Select TitanGreens.com from the Nominees drop-down menu at the top of the page.

3) Cast your vote (for us)!

    May good karma await you!!

Earth Day Goodies

First your meal. Then, your dessert.

Please take a few minutes and read the EXCELLENT article by Michael Pollan in the New York Times Magazine. He takes on the issue of the potential insignificance of changing your environmental attitudes and behaviors. Because, after all, even if you're biking to work, eating local foods, turning off your lights and dialing down your thermostat --- there are still millions of people down your street and across the globe who are doing the exact opposite. Thus, counteracting and canceling out your "goodness".

In eloquent and informative fashion, Pollan answers the simple question: "Why Bother?" Here's a snippet:

If you do bother, you will set an example for other people. If enough other people bother, each one influencing yet another in a chain reaction of behavioral change, markets for all manner of green products and alternative technologies will prosper and expand. (Just look at the market for hybrid cars.) Consciousness will be raised, perhaps even changed: new moral imperatives and new taboos might take root in the culture. Driving an S.U.V. or eating a 24-ounce steak or illuminating your McMansion like an airport runway at night might come to be regarded as outrages to human conscience. Not having things might become cooler than having them. And those who did change the way they live would acquire the moral standing to demand changes in behavior from others — from other people, other corporations, even other countries.

Now that I've fed your mind (courtesy of Michael Pollan), it's time to feed your funny...Planet Police style!

It's not enough that we make videos that are Webby-Nominated. We have to make videos about the Webby-Nominated videos. It may sound confusing, but it sure is entertaining. Check us out!

Paraphrased Quote of the Week

This comes from The Daily Show's John Oliver:

"The belief that the United States and China are going to sign a climate change treaty is akin to a young, innocent girl believing that this is the Christmas where she finally gets the pony she asked for. Sorry little girl, that's pony's not showing up under the tree."

Well, we always have that election in November to look forward to. Maybe the next President will make his treaty-signing pen a little more available.
